600 Miles as the Dog Walks

NEWPORT, OR, (April 26, 2012) – How far would you walk for a dog? Or a cat? For Rogue Nation Ambassador Leah Hansen and her dad Mike, the answer is 600 miles. This week, they set off from Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho on a 207 hour, 29 minute hike to Newport, Oregon – The hometown of Rogue Ales and Spirits.

The Hansen’s journey is a fund-raiser for Help Every Little Paw (HELP), a non-profit that pays for veterinary services, low cost spay and neuter programs, and provides food for companion animals in need. HELP hopes to raise $20,000, which will keep hundreds of pets in their loving homes and out of the pound or animal shelters.

The 600-mile route meanders through some of the most scenic places of the Pacific Northwest, including cities like Spokane and Portland, and small towns such as Ritzville, Eltopia and Mabton. Where they can’t find hotels, the Hansens will spend the night in the homes of friends, a trailer, and even a barn.

You can follow the Hansens on their journey through HELP’s Facebook page and can donate on HELP’s website.
Leah and Mike plan to arrive in Newport on Friday, May 18th, the first day of the 6th Annual Brewer’s Memorial Ale Fest. Held inside the Rogue Brewery, BMAF raises money for animal groups on the Central Oregon Coast. Leah has organized BMAF’s doggie Olympics for two years. And Rogue is pleased to support her and Mike on their walk with a donation of $2,500.

Size Doesn’t Matter. Right?

PORTLAND, OREGON – Body. Aroma. Mouthfeel. The characteristics of which most things are judged, beer being no exception. And as proven by this year’s Great American Nano Fest, size is not important.

The Great American Nano Fest – a celebration of all things Nano; breweries, food carts, music, craft vendors, and artists – was held outside the Buckman Botanical Brewery and Green Dragon in southeast Portland. The kid and dog friendly event offered festival goers the latest creations from more than 30 of Oregon’s smallest and most innovative brewers.

Nano brewers at this year’s festival included: Beetje, Ambacht, Coalition, Fire Mountain, Columbia River, Green Dragon Brew Crew, Mt.Emily, Two Kilts, Pale Horse, Occidental, Upright, Boneyard, Flat Tail, Heater Allen, Migration, Beer Valley, Oregon Trail, Natian Brewery, Everybody’s, Big Al, Mutiny and the Chatoe Rogue Farmstead Brewery

The Great American Nano Fest raised $2,000 for the Buckman Arts Focus Elementary School. A big thank you goes to the vendors, breweries, sponsors and attendees for their support.

See you at next year’s festival, August 25 – 26, 2012!

B(eer) List Celebrity Shuts Down Streets for Parade

PORTLAND, OR, August 19, 2011 – Portland streets were closed down Thursday as Rogue hosted a parade to kick off the first annual Portland Beer Week. Star of film and flagon, Sebbie Buhler, graced the parade by cutting the ceremonial ribbon as she made an appearance to taste a few of the 62 beers the Green Dragon has on tap.

Sebbie made the cross country visit to attend the premiere of The Love of Beer, a film celebrating women in the craft beer industry, in which she appears.

Rogue honored the start of Portland Beer Week while flag wavers, Bucko the Buckman Brewery mascot, bicycles, motorcycles, food carts, wheelbarrows, wagons and forklifts, marched around the blocks, to a roaring crowd of onlookers.

Portland Beer Week runs from August 19th – 28th, an extra 2 days added to help recovery time from the week’s festivities. Events at the Green Dragon bookend Beer Week with the opening Parade and The Great American Nano Fest on August 27th & 28th.

All Roads Lead To Brewer’s Memorial Ale Fest

Newport, Oregon, April 8, 2011 – Newport, Oregon usually expects a quiet weekend when Highway 20 is closed for repairs. But that will not be the case when the Coastal artery closes on May 20th. This two-day closure coincides with Rogue Ales’ 5th Annual Brewer’s Memorial Ale Festival (“BMAF”) at their brewery in Newport, Oregon.

BMAF, the largest dog-beer festival in the world, draws about 3,500 people and 850 dogs to the Newport annually. The festival includes beer from over 50 microbreweries, dog celebrity look-a-like contests, dog washes, dog Olympics, live music and regular tours of the Rogue Brewery and Distillery. The event benefits the Central Coast Humane Society, Oregon Coast Therapy Animals and Friends of Lincoln County Animal Shelter. In March, BMAF was named Oregon’s best festival with a budget under $150,000.

If coming from Portland and areas north, Rogue suggests traveling on I-5 South to Exit 294 (OR-99W/Tigard) to OR-18 W / OR-233 S/SE Dayton Bypass. OR-18 leads to US-101 S (Oregon Coast Highway) which leads directly into Newport.

Those coming from Salem should take OR-22 W to OR-18/Salmon River Highway to US-101 S (Oregon Coast Highway) into Newport.
Dog and beer lovers traveling from Eugene and other areas south should take follow OR-126 to US-101.
Finally, if coming from Corvallis/Albany take Highway 34 to Walport and turn North on US-101. This will add approximately 40 minutes to your trip.
Those coming from the West are advised to take a boat.
