Disaster Area: Free Range Water Main (Round 2)
From the office of the Public Works Director/City Engineer, Tim Gross:
Note to Citizens of the Newport, South Beach Area:
The City is requesting that residents and business make every effort to conserve water and possibly delay any production or operations that may use large quantities of water until the water main can be brought back into service. Residents are encouraged to have a 72 hour emergency kit at all times including a supply of water in containers. Water is available at the City Shops, located at 845 NE Third Street. Anyone obtaining water from the City Shops must bring their own water containers. The City Shops will only be open during normal business hours Monday-Friday 8am-4pm.

Disaster Area: Free Range Water Main

ROGUE NATION
OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
February 7, 2012
The disaster area has been moved from the Hopyard, where slugs consumed 15 acres of Rye in 24 hours and where Daisy and Josh were stranded by high waters for 10 days, to Newport where several weeks ago hurricane force winds tipped an empty beer truck over on the Yaquina Bay Bridge. There were no injuries but traffic was tied up on Highway 101 both ways for 3 hours. The same storm, it has now been discovered, brought in a log which hit our free range waterline under Yaquina Bay and caused major damage, leaking 600,000 gallons a day.
We have been advised by the city that residents should have a three day emergency kit including a supply of water for everyone in the family. Roughly three gallons of water a day per person. City water will be available at the city shops at NE 3rd Street. Be sure you bring your own water containers. Make sure to bring home enough water to flush your toilets. The sewer system will be working fine, but it takes water to flush toilets. Military type showers may be in order: Water on. Water off. Lather up. Water rinse. Grab towel.
Along with our South Beach neighbors, we are in conservation mode – blessed by a brewing style which utilizes a high quotient of hops and barley to water – 4oz of grain in a 12oz Dead Guy.

‘Tis The Season For Oregon Dungeness Crab With Rogue Ales
NEWPORT, OR (January 13, 2012) - Winter is the busiest time of year on the fishing docks of Newport, Oregon – the hometown of Rogue Ales and Spirits. This is when the Dungeness Crab harvest comes in, and Newport is the Dungeness Crab Capital of the World.
Every Sunday during crab season, starting January 15th, Rogue Pubs will celebrate the season by serving whole, fresh Dungeness Crabs. This is how Dungeness was meant to be eaten; chilled, served with lemon, warm butter made with Rogue Brutal IPA, a bib, and a crab cracker.
Newport’s fishing industry was born in Yaquina Bay where fishermen harvested oysters, salmon and Dungeness Crab. Today, Rogue’s World Headquarters and Brewer’s on the Bay overlook the birthplace of Newport fishing. You can catch your own Dungeness Crab right off the back dock then take it next door to the cleaning station at the Rogue House of Spirits. It doesn’t get any fresher than that.
Crabbing and fishing has been part of Rogue’s history ever since it opened its brewery in Newport in the middle of the seafood district. Surrounded by processing plants, the commercial fishing fleet and the U.S. Coast Guard, Rogue’s Bayfront Pub is still at its original location.
The terroir of Newport and Yaquina Bay has been producing world class seafood and beer for three centuries. Serving whole Dungeness Crab is one of the ways Rogue shares the bounty of its hometown of Newport. Rogue honors all fishermen with Captain Sig’s Northwestern Ale. Named for Sig Hansen, star of Deadliest Catch, it reminds us of the dangers all fishermen face whether they’re in the Bering Sea or off the coast of Newport.
