PORTLAND, OR (NOVEMBER 15TH, 2012) – Call it White Whale Ale.
Powell’s Books and Rogue Ales and Spirits, two unique Oregon businesses, have collaborated to create a beer that’s dedicated to everyone with a thirst for books and artisan craft beer – WHITE WHALE ALE..
White Whale Ale is infused with the sea-faring spirit of Moby-Dick. Michael and Emily Powell took pages from a copy of the book and, along with Rogue Brewmaster John Maier, placed them into the brew kettle. Moby-Dick is especially meaningful to Michael Powell, who was inspired to become a bookseller when he found a first edition of the novel in a box of books he’d purchased.
White Whale Ale was brewed in honor of Powell’s Books 41st Anniversary. Powell’s Books is the one of the world’s great independent and family run bookstores. Its flagship store in downtown Portland, Oregon covers an entire city block and contains more than one million new and used books. It also serves customers worldwide through Powells.com.
White Whale Ale is available at Rogue Hall in the heart of the Portland State University campus and the Rogue Distillery & Public House located in Portland’s historic Pearl District, just blocks from Powell’s Books on Burnside. Commemorative bottles may also be purchased online at www.rogue.com.
Rogue Ales & Spirits is an artisan varietal brewery and distillery founded in Oregon in 1988, as one of America’s first 50 microbreweries. Rogue is available in 50 states and 32 countries, and has won over 900 awards for taste and quality.

Rogue Ales & Spirits is releasing Rogue Farms 19 Original Colonies Mead, made with Rogue Hopyard Honey grown and harvested at the Rogue Farm Micro Hopyard in Independence, Oregon.
The Rogue honeybees spend their days sampling the flavors of the farm and absorbing the terroir of the Wigrich Appellation. From blackberries, raspberries and cherries; to woodruff, lavender and pumpkins; to rye and corn – the honey they produce is a taste of the terroir of the Wigrich Appellation. And so is Rogue Farms 19 Original Colonies Mead.
Rogue Farms 19 Original Colonies Mead is brewed using 5 ingredients: Rogue Farms Hopyard Honey, Wild Flower Honey, Jasmine Green Tea Leaves, Champagne Yeast & Free Range Coastal Water. No chemicals, additives or preservatives were used.
When you grow it you know it. It takes extra time and work to do it this way but it’s worth it. 19 Original Colonies Mead is available nationally in 22oz serigraphed bottles and on draft.
Rogue Ales is dedicated to saving the terroir of Oregon hops, barley, honey, pumpkins, rye, jalapenos and bees one acre at a time, by growing its own. The Rogue GYO 200 acre Micro Barley Farm is located in Oregon’s Tygh Valley Appellation and Rogue’s 42 acre Micro Hopyard is located in Oregon’s Wigrich Appellation.

Congratulations to Josh Tuininga, whose Dead Guy Entry was voted the winner in our pubs, and by our team of unqualified critics. Your Dead Guy Prize Pack will be on the way shortly.
At the beginning of the month, we asked fans of Dead Guy Ale to submit their own Dead Guy artwork, in whatever form it might be. We received drawings, paintings, tattoos, glasswork, even a custom pool table, and were inspired by the creativity, humor and enthusiasm shown for Dead Guy Ale.
The Rogue.com homepage was updated daily with a different, fan created, Dead Guy image on the front page to celebrate Halloween and The Day of the Dead. We received many more entries than days of the month, so while not every entry could have it’s own day, as the contest is now over we are opening up our gallery and posting every entry we received.
So crack open a bottle of Dead Guy, and take a look at all the great entries we received right here: http://www.rogue.com/Special/deadguy.php
And be ready, because there is more fun on the horizon…

In the recent episode of Supernatural, “Live Free or Twi-hard” which originally aired October 22nd on the CW, we learned that Dead Guy Ale is not only a favorite of the living, but the un-dead as well. Dead Guy appears to be the beer of choice in this Vampire bar.
