I have issued a Letter of Commendation to Farm Manager Natascha Cronin and her husband, Josh Cronin, who start their second week stranded by flood waters at the Chatoe Rogue Hopyard in Independence, Oregon.

Not only did Natascha and Josh not fall into a life raft, but also refused to be evacuated.

Natascha says, “I am the captain of this ship and I will not leave my post.”

NEWPORT, OR (January 13, 2012) - Winter is the busiest time of year on the fishing docks of Newport, Oregon – the hometown of Rogue Ales and Spirits. This is when the Dungeness Crab harvest comes in, and Newport is the Dungeness Crab Capital of the World.

Every Sunday during crab season, starting January 15th, Rogue Pubs will celebrate the season by serving whole, fresh Dungeness Crabs. This is how Dungeness was meant to be eaten; chilled, served with lemon, warm butter made with Rogue Brutal IPA, a bib, and a crab cracker.

Newport’s fishing industry was born in Yaquina Bay where fishermen harvested oysters, salmon and Dungeness Crab. Today, Rogue’s World Headquarters and Brewer’s on the Bay overlook the birthplace of Newport fishing. You can catch your own Dungeness Crab right off the back dock then take it next door to the cleaning station at the Rogue House of Spirits. It doesn’t get any fresher than that.

Crabbing and fishing has been part of Rogue’s history ever since it opened its brewery in Newport in the middle of the seafood district. Surrounded by processing plants, the commercial fishing fleet and the U.S. Coast Guard, Rogue’s Bayfront Pub is still at its original location.
