If you grew up folding paper fortune tellers at recess, you probably remember the fun of predicting the future with friends. Whether you call it a cootie catcher or a fortune teller, this classic paper craft is easy to make! Don’t know what beer you want tonight? Let the Rogue and Dead Guy cootie catchers decide and trust the process. All of these beers are available at our Oregon pubs, in retail locations and available to order online. (Ages +21)
What You’ll Need:
- Print off either the Dead Guy or Rogue Cootie Catcher (see below for printable version)
- Scissors (optional, if you need to cut your paper into a 6×6 square)
Step 1: Start with a Square
If you’re using a rectangular piece of paper, fold one corner diagonally to the opposite edge to form a triangle. Trim off the excess paper below the triangle to create a perfect square.
Step 2: Fold Diagonally Both Ways
Take your square paper and fold it in half diagonally to form a triangle. Crease well, then unfold. Fold it diagonally the other way and crease again. When you open the paper, you should see an “X” crease pattern.
Step 3: Fold the Corners to the Center
Take each corner of the square and fold it inward toward the center, where the diagonal creases intersect. Once all four corners are folded in, your paper should look like a smaller square.
Step 4: Flip and Fold Again
Turn your folded paper over so the flaps are facing downward. Now, take each corner and fold it into the center again. After completing this step, your paper will still look like a square, but with smaller folded sections.
Step 5: Fold in Half and Open the Flaps
Fold the square in half to form a rectangle, crease it well, and then unfold. Fold it in half the other way and crease again. When you unfold, you should have a well-defined center crease that will help shape the cootie catcher. Now, slide your fingers under the four flaps and gently push them together so the cootie catcher takes shape.
Step 7: Play the Game!
To use the cootie catcher, choose either “Dead” or “Guy” for the Dead Guy catcher, for Rogue’s either choose “Rogue” or “Ales”. Open and close the catcher the corresponding number of letters. Then, pick a background or color inside. Lift the flap to reveal your beer fortune and let fate decide which beer to order.
Play at home or at any of our pubs with either of our variety packs!
