At Rogue Ales & Spirits, we are thrilled to announce our partnership with the Oregon Zoo Foundation to support Timber and Thorn, two orphaned black bear cubs who now have a forever home at the Oregon Zoo’s Black Bear Ridge. These playful young bears were found wandering separately in Alaska, too young to survive on their own. Thanks to state wildlife officials, both cubs were rescued and taken to the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage for care before arriving in Portland in December.
In their new habitat, Timber and Thorn have been thriving. You can often see them climbing the tall Douglas Fir trees, a sight that delights visitors and staff alike. “It’s pretty amazing to see them climb so high,” said Jen Osburn Eliot, who oversees the zoo’s Great Northwest area. “Both cubs like to climb, but Thorn is the bolder of the two. If you see one bear up higher than the other, that’s probably him.”
The Oregon Zoo is committed to conservation, acting globally on behalf of species from pikas to polar bears. Over the past 30 years, the zoo has prevented extinctions, expanded populations, advanced conservation science, and formed powerful communities to protect wildlife in the Northwest and around the world. Rogue Ales & Spirits is proud to support these efforts.
This summer – from June through August – every purchase of our Blackberry Honey Kölsch beer at our Portland pub locations will directly support the Oregon Zoo Foundation. With each pint you enjoy, Rogue will donate to help care for Timber, Thorn, and other local wildlife. It’s a small but significant way we can all contribute to conservation while enjoying a refreshing brew.
Join us in raising a glass to Timber and Thorn and the incredible work done by the Oregon Zoo Foundation. Together, we can make a difference for wildlife conservation. Visit our Portland pubs this summer, savor a pint of Blackberry Honey Kölsch, and support the future of these wonderful bears and many other species.
Cheers to great beer and a great cause!
